Many people are unaware of the dangers and symptoms associated with STIs, and as a result, they may not practice safe sex.

The most common STI diseases include chlamydia, gonorrhoea, syphilis, HIV, and HPV. Chlamydia is the most common, and it is caused by a bacterium that can be passed between partners during unprotected sex, including oral, anal and vaginal sex. Symptoms of chlamydia include a burning sensation when urinating, abnormal discharge, pain in the abdominal region, and pain during intercourse. If left untreated, chlamydia can cause infertility in both men and women.

Gonorrhoea is a common bacterial infection that can be passed during unprotected sex, usually through oral, vaginal or anal sex. If left untreated, gonorrhoea can spread to other parts of the body, leading to long-term complications.

Syphilis is a bacterial infection that can be passed through sexual contact. Common symptoms include a rash, sores on the genitals, fatigue, fever and swelling of the lymph nodes. If left untreated, syphilis can cause serious complications, including damage to the heart and nervous system.

HIV is an infection that can be passed through sexual contact. While there is no cure for HIV, it can be treated with antiretroviral medications to help manage the infection. Untreated HIV can lead to AIDS, which is a serious and life-threatening condition.

HPV is a virus that can be passed through sexual contact. Common symptoms include genital warts, itching, and abnormal discharge. It is important to note that there is no cure for HPV, but there are treatments available to help reduce the risk of complications.

It is important to practice safe sex and get tested regularly for STIs. If left untreated, STIs can have long-term and serious consequences. So, if you think you have been exposed to an STI, it's important to get tested and treated as soon as possible.
